What is Jewish Humor?

Sun 20 May. Great Jewish Comics of the Past 75 Years with Steve Budd This scintillating revue of Jewish humor combines performance and lecture. In the performance portions, Steve Budd delivers standup routines and jokes of well-known Jewish comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Reiser, Jackie Mason, Woody Allen, Jack Benny, and the Marx Brothers. In the lecture portion, he address the history of Jewish comedians in America, consider the reasons for their popularity, and provide some answers to the question, "What makes Jewish humor Jewish?" Calligraphy Workshop with Soferet Aviel Barclay

Sun 20 May, 2 pm. A rare opportunity to learn the art of art of calligraphy through the Hebrew Alphabet with the world's first Soferet (female ritual Hebrew scribe). Soferet Aveilah Barclay writes: The ability to create, to bring ideas, images and materials to interact cohesively and take form as a whole, are a privilege as well as another opportunity to emulate and thereby draw closer to Gd. Fear and Misery of The Third Reich

Sun 20 May, 3 pm. The Eastenders Repertory Company previews a couple of scenes from their full production Fear and Misery of The THIRD REICH by Bertolt Brecht. The two chilling portraits of everyday life under the Nazis are Judicial Process, a blackly humorous piece about a Judge who must decide a case of robbery and battery by three SA men against a Jewish shopkeeper; and The Jewish Wife, a heart-wrenching study of an upper middle-class woman who must flee to Amsterdam to protect the career and reputation of her husband.
