In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the State of Israel, the JCC of Greater Baltimore presents By George! By Ira! By Gershwin!, a musical celebration of the careers of the great Jewish American composing team, George and Ira Gershwin. The performance will take place on Sunday, April 13 at the Gordon Center For Performing Arts and will be opened with greetings from a dignitary representing the State of Israel.
This dynamic, tribute will offer the complete Gershwin experience, combining music, narrative and lighting. Featured will be award winning singer Carolyn Black-Sotir & Company, guest pianist Erik Zuber performing Rhapsody In Blue, and the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro José Luis Novo. Together, the rhythmic ragtimes, sophisticated melodies, brother Ira’s clever lyrics and masterpiece Porgy and Bess captures the Gershwin spirit—vibrant, brash, bold and uniquely American. A dramatic narrative, delivered in turn by each performer, tells the compelling story of brother George’s rise to fame: his childhood as the son of poor Jewish immigrant parents, his early years on Tin Pan Alley spent in the smoky speakeasies of Harlem, his successes on Broadway and his history-making concert performances.
