The tours of Congregation Mikveh Israel, 44 North Fourth Street, Philadelphia, PA , the oldest congregation in Philadelphia, emphasize its history from colonial times to today, iits unique Spanish and Portuguese custom and features displayed artifacts and archives illustrating its long history.
Currently on display are portraits of many early members and clergy of the synagogue, as well as its collection of spice boxes, and facsimilies of letters from Presidents Washington and Lincoln. Beginning with the month of May, Congregation Mikveh Israel will have docents available for tours Monday through Thursdday from 1 to 4 P.M., Fridays and Sundays from 10AM-1PM. Tours at other times are by appointment. There is no charge for walk-ins during the scheduled time, but contributions are appreciated. Group tours must be booked in advance and there is a charge for group tours and tours by appointment.
