Community Invited TO LEARN ABOUT Israel'S Emergency Medical Preparedness: BLOOD DRIVE Scheduled TO Complement Program

On Sunday morning, November 1, the JCC of San Luis Obispo, along with Central Coast Hadassah, will co-sponsor a presentation given by the Western Region Director of American Friends of Magen David Adom, Ellen Rofman. A community blood drive is scheduled to complement the program. The blood drive will take place between 9 A.M and 1 P.M. with the presentation at 10 A.M.

Magen David Adom (MDA) is Israel’s equivalent of the Red Cross and 911 combined. As the only government-mandated ambulance and emergency medical responders, it serves as the nation’s second line of defense with medical, disaster, ambulance and blood services. A fleet of 800 MDA ambulances and Mobile Intensive Care Units are on call 24/7, operating from over 100 Emergency Medical Stations and 11 dispatch stations throughout Israel, logging more than 6.75 million miles and taking care of more than 700,000 patients annually. MDA also provides 100% of the blood needs to the Israel Defense Forces and 97% to the hospitals and the rest of the population and houses the MDA Israel Cord Blood Bank.

Magen David Adom is recognized as one of the best first responders in the world and teams come from across the globe to learn from them. As part of the Home Front Command, they plan and participate in training exercises to prepare for whatever challenges they might confront.

American Friends of Magen David Adom is the sole authorized fundraising and advocacy organization in the United States supporting the life saving efforts of Magen David Adom (MDA) in Israel and representing MDA in the United States in all matters. Its mission is to provide the financial resources critical to sustain the operations of MDA in Israel so that they can be prepared.

Central Coast Hadassah is pleased to host MDA during its Healthcare Awareness Month. The Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) is one of the world’s leading institutions in healthcare. Comprised of two medical facilities in Israel – the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center at Ein Kerem and the Hadassah University Hospital at Mount Scopus – HMO places great emphasis on clinical and scientific research with the aim of advancing and improving medical care. Hadassah works to improve the quality of life for all the people of Israel and to strengthen Jewish life in the United States. Hadassah is about people, about changing lives, and about Tikkun Olam--making the world a better place. Focused on Health, Education, Youth and the Environment, Hadassah changes lives, one person at a time.
