Director: Benoit Jacquot, 2004, France, 185 minutes, in French and German with English subtitles The incomparable Catherine Deneuve stars as Marie Bonaparte, grand-niece of Napoleon Bonaparte and Princess of Greece and Denmark. Suffering from frigidity, she goes to Vienna in the 1920s to be psychoanalyzed by Sigmund Freud. An extraordinary relationship develops between the two over the next twenty years. With the rise of Nazi Germany, she becomes the protector and savior of the Freud family. Deneuve's performance is riveting. Almost in every frame, she is surrounded by a superb cast led by Heinz Bennent as Sigmund Freud.
