These houses took in children who had been hidden in the French countryside, and later, concentration camp refugees from Poland and Romania, provoking cultural and religious conflict. As momentous world events continue, the emotionally devastated children seek hope for the future and re-engagement with life. The film is indeed a "hymn to life." Walter H.
