Debra Speyer, Esq. and Moses L. Pava, Ph.D. It seems every time you open the Wall Street Journal these days, there is another financial scandal. This seminar will review the history of the Ponzi scheme, explore the recent fallout from corporate, brokerage and hedge fund fraud and discuss the legal options available in the aftermath.
How can you recover monies against a brokerage firm or hedge fund? How do you locate the deep pockets for recoveries in a Ponzi scheme? What is SIPC and how can it help you? These are some of the questions Debra Speyer will address. Dr. Moses Pava, Professor of Business Ethics at Yeshiva University (where he sat on committees with Bernie Madoff), will follow with the Jewish legal/ethical perspective and identify some of the relevant Jewish sources which offer a response. He will also speak to the broader cultural implications of recent events and suggest what might be done to foster a more ethical business culture and prevent these crises in the future.
