Sun 19 Oct. Sunday, October 19, 2008 / 10:00 - 2:00 p.m. Join cyclist and history buff Dr. Ralph Brown for a unique tour through several neighborhoods in South and East Baltimore and Bolton Hill. See Baltimore from a new vantage point as you explore streets and sites that were once quintessentially Jewish, and discover how they’ve changed over the years. The trip concludes with a visit to the JMM and a tour of our historic synagogues. Lunch is on your own at Attmans, the oldest remaining Jewish deli on Lombard Street. The tour leaves from the JMM at 10 a.m. Free parking is available. The tour is approximately 10 miles and is mostly flat. Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Today, the Museum, our synagogues, and a few delis appear to be all that remains of the area's Jewish past. But are they? In fact, many building that have been converted to new uses have Jewish roots. Uncover history step by step as you take this self-guided tour. The Museum will provide an illustrated route map and written commentary - everything you need to discover how the neighborhood has changed over the last hundred years. On the Cutting Edge Sunday October 26, 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. In these hands-on workshops, Israeli artist Zipora Ne’eman will talk about the history of paper cutting and teach you to make your own original paper cuts. Jewish paper cutting is an intriguing art form that reveals an amazing complexity of design. Come join the fun, learn a few trick with the scissors, and create a beautiful keepsake.
