Film Screening Sunday November 2, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. First Lessons in Peace is about a six-year-old girl, the director’s daughter, who attends the mixed Arab-Jewish primary school Neveh Shalom (The Oasis of Peace). Neveh Shalom, the first school of its kind in Israel, provides children from different backgrounds with an educational framework for learning together. The film follows the girl’s struggles during her first year in school and explores her awakening awareness of the reality of the conflict in the Middle East. Israel's Domestic And Foreign Policy Challenges: A Look To The Future Sunday, November 9, 2:00-4:00 p.m. Contemporary Israel: Domestic Politics, Foreign Policy, and Security Challenges (Boulder,Colorado:Westview Press, 2008), a new book edited by Baltimore Hebrew University's Robert O. Freedman, examines some of the challenges facing Israel today. This ground-breaking volume brings together essays by American and Israeli scholars to provide insights into Israel's political and foreign policy climate. Young Adult Night Wine Tasting Event Thursday November 13, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. What could be better than drinking fine wine while watching films by some of Israel's most talented new artists? Young adults are invited for an evening of sipping and cinema. The short films are the latest by students at the Sam Spiegel School, Israel's leading film institute. Film Screening and Discussion with Producer Jon Lopatin Sunday November 16, 3:30 - 5 p.m. This documentary film chronicles the experiences of American Jewish tourists in Israel, revealing their complex and sometimes strained relationship with the Jewish State. A 60-minute look at the reality inside the tour buses, Eyes Wide Open is a story of inspiration and emotional challenges.
