CLE: Execution & Exegesis: Capital Punishment from the Bible to Today Hosted by Beth Am Israel 1301 Hagys Ford Rd., Penn Valley, PA 19072 Professor Steven L. Chanenson Honorable Abraham J. Gafni 1:00 – 4:30 pm In the Talmud, four forms of legal execution are listed—stoning, burning, beheading and strangling—but the Rabbis crafted the law in such a way as to make capital sentencing virtually impossible.

Professor Chanenson will begin this course with a brief overview of the most current issues in criminal sentencing and then focus on American law concerning the death penalty. Judge Gafni will follow with an examination of trial procedures in capital cases as described in Jewish legal sources and then draw a comparison with procedures in our modern American Judicial system.
