New Testament: Texts From A Jewish World

Tue 5 Jul. While the books of the New Testament are the foundational texts of Christianity, they were written in a Jewish context, many of them for a Jewish audience. This class will examine various books of the New Testament, including the four Gospels, Paul's Letters and the Book of Revelation to understand their historical Jewish context. American Jewish History from 1654 - 1924

Wed 6 Jul. This course surveys American Jewish history from 1654 to 1924, covering major developments in American Judaism and American Jewish life from historical, religious and cultural perspectives, and through the often overlapping lenses of religion, ethnicity, culture and community. Through the exploration of primary and secondary source readings, class lectures, and film clips, the uniqueness and diversity of American Jews and their communities will be explored.
