Rabbi Stein will begin this course with a review of Jewish law regarding adultery, how it is defined differently for men and women, and how the Rabbis have interpreted the legal and ethical inequities and attempted remedies in post-Biblical Jewish society. In this course, Mr. Atkins will review some highly publicized historic and ongoing U.S. cases involving Jewish defendants (Leopold and Loeb, Jonathan Pollard, and Dominique Strauss-Kahn) as well as high profile international cases with Jewish victims (Billionaire Edmond Safra in Monaco) and non-Jewish victims (Natalie Holloway). He will continue with examples of his own work on noteworthy international cases such as that of Billy Hayes of “Midnight Express” fame, and cases involving cultural law violations in Thailand, Turkey and Latin America. Detective Marc Azeff Rabbi Joshua Kalev Rabbi Kalev will begin the course with a segment on ethics, exploring privacy issues and eavesdropping in Jewish law. Mr. Zucker will follow with a discussion on how wiretap and surveillance evidence can play a critical role in criminal and civil cases. Detective Azeff, an expert in undercover video and electronic evidence, will explain the technical aspects and challenges of doing surveillance and share some anecdotes from his extensive experience in the field.
