Congregation Mikveh Israel: Synagogue Tour

Sun 6 Nov, 1-3:30 pm. The tours of Congregation Mikveh Israel, 44 North Fourth Street, Philadelphia, PA , the oldest congregation in Philadelphia, emphasize its history from colonial times to today, iits unique Spanish and Portuguese custom and features displayed artifacts and archives illustrating its long history. Currently on display are portraits of many early members and clergy of the synagogue, as well as its collection of spice boxes, and facsimilies of letters from Presidents Washington and Lincoln. Beginning with the month of May, Congregation Mikveh Israel will have docents available for tours Monday through Thursdday from 1 to 4 P.M., Fridays and Sundays from 10AM-1PM. TasteRS at Rodeph Shalom

Our synagogue, established in 1795, continues to be located in its historic Philadelphia metropolitan location, the sole Reform Jewish congregation in Center City. First he studied with a Reform rabbi, then became Conservative, and now he is Orthodox. And every conversion, you guessed it, required a circumcision. The film tells the fascinating story of Campbell’s spiritual journey from teenage drug addict and alcoholic to orthodox Jewish comedian through clips of old standup comedy routines.
