Raymond Payuer, WWII Naval Veteran Having survived the sinking of the S.S. Henry Bergh, Raymond Payeur opted not to return to his native Maine and was reassigned to the ill-fated USS Indianapolis. While Payeur was not aboard the ship the day it sank, many of the 880 sailors who died were his friends. Since then, Payeur has made it his personal mission to collect and share the stories of the U.S. Navy’s worst disaster in its history.
