Thursday, January 12, 2012 10-week Shoah/Holocaust seminar Congregation Betenu, 5 Northern Blvd., Unit 1, Amherst, NH. Have you ever wondered? Why did the Nazis want to kill the Jews in particular? How did people become mass murderers during the Shoah? What were the dilemmas facing the Jewish leadership during the Shoah? How did the local population respond to the murder of the Jews? Why didn't the Allies bomb Auschwitz? How did Christian denominations respond to the Shoah? Where was G-d during the Shoah? Has the world recovered from the trauma of the Shoah? Is anti-Semitism an eternal phenomenon?

You are invited to participate in a Shoah (Holocaust) seminar for adults. Each weekly meeting will address one or two key questions raised by the Holocaust. Participants will share their own responses and study those of leading teachers, religious figures, philosophers, historians, and survivors to each question. Group discussion will alternate with havruta (pair work) study of relevant texts. No prerequisite background or homework will be required, though supplementary sources will be available. There will be ten meetings on Thursdays between 7 and 8:30 between January 12th and March 22nd in 2012. Each session will stand alone; you are invited to come to the whole series or to only those sessions that interest you. No pre-registration is required, however an RSVP is appreciated. TENTATIVE DATES: January 12, 19, 26; February: 2, 9, 16, 23; March: 1, 15, 22.
