Ghosts on the Rock; an Archaeological Investigation of the American and Japanese Presence on Corregidor Island Tuesday, August 09, 2011 at 7:00pm Presented by Norman Stevens, Executive Director of Wright Museum Occupied by the American Army at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Philippine island of Corregidor became the centerpiece of American defenses in Manila Bay. It was defended by the Americans from December 1941, captured by the Japanese in the spring of 1942 and occupied by them until recaptured by the Americans in 1944. In 1998 Norman Stevens was part of an archaeological team exploring collapsed lateral tunnels in the Malinta Tunnel complex, along with several large gun emplacements. He will discuss this effort, his impressions of Correg
