The third annual Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival (SBJFF) will be held on March 8-11, 2007. The six-film series kicks off on a Thursday evening, March 8, with a gala dinner at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort featuring lively klezmer music and no speeches. The festivities resume on Saturday, March 10th, with Congregation B’nai B’rith’s “best darn breakfast in town” and a distinguished speaker on the topic of current Jewish-themed films.
That evening there will be two films, a feature and a documentary. On Sunday there will be three more showings and a panel discussion. Congregation B’nai B’rith is a sponsor of the event.
In addition, on Wednesday, March 7th, Congregation B’nai B’rith is hosting a youth film night at the Plaza de Oro Theatre. A feature or documentary will be shown and then Rabbi Cohen will lead a discussion based on the film. The B’nai B’rith Academy plus young teenagers from all segments of the community are invited to attend.
The SBJFF is moving forward on other fronts, as well. “Our All-Festival Passes always sell out,” says founder and co-president Barbara Greenleaf, “but we will try to accommodate various organizations whose members want to attend together. Although the SBJFF is the second-largest Jewish event in town, we feel it can continue to grow and be even more responsive to the community.”
Now in its third year, the Santa Barbara Jewish Film Festival is one of more than a hundred Jewish film festivals across the country and around the world.
