Founded in 1893, B'nai Israel is the third oldest, continuing independent congregation and the oldest conservative synagogue in Rhode Island. The earliest roots of the congregation date to 1889, when it was known as the Lovers of Peace. Congregation Beth David of Narragansett, Narragansett

Congregation Beth David was chartered as a congregation in 1961, Jews who summered in Narragansett had been gathering in private homes on Friday nights since at least 1946. Most of these vacationing Jews belonged to shuls in the greater Providence area, but they finally decided they needed a summer synagogue. In 1961 they built a small ranch-style building on the corner of Kingstown and Watson Roads. Touro Synagogue, Newport

In 1946 the Touro Synagogue was designated as a National Historical Site by the United States Government. Touro Synagogue Jeshuat Israel Congregation founded in 1658. The oldest synagogue building in the United States was designed by Peter Harrison. Ground was broken August 1, 1759. It was dedicated on December 2, 1763. The building was reopened for religious services on August 2, 1850. Touro Synagogue is closed for restoration until December, 2005. During this time services will be held at the Levi Gale House at 85 Touro St. across from Touro Synagogue. Touro Synagogue is orthodox and uses Sephardic liturgy.
